Jacqueline Devreux has two main passions : her daughter and her painting. The fusion of the two gives a series of canvases that are as much autobiographical as biographical because by watching, studying, analysing and representing her Alice at practically every moment of the childs life, the mother puts so much of herself in her paintings that she reveals her own psyche as well. However, it is not only very strong feelings that drench Jacquelines canvases. Her technique rests mainly on applying thin layers upon thin layers of paint, with intermediate erasings, and thus, finally, one might say that her works are more lacquered than painted. A very interesting technique, with sumptuous results and miles away from the humble little snapshot that often was at the origin of the work.
